Hump Day Culture: Claude & Francois-Xavier Lalanne

Claude Lalanne and François-Xavier Lalanne -- such a team!  Known individually and collectively since the 1960s, Les Lalanne developed a style that typifies inventive, poetic and surrealist sculpture. They rediscovered the Renaissance art of casting forms from life, then employing contemporary electro-plating techniques.  Claude  achieves a delicacy and sensitivity in her work unparalleled in cast bronze. François similarly found inspiration for his works in nature. His subjects consist of a menagerie of animals, stylized forms oftentimes married with functionality (check out the desk and day bed below!). Elegant, streamlined, stylized, monumental, emotive... and fun!  Enjoy some of their beauties below.  All I want for Christmas is a Lalanne sheep, Santa -- if only!
