What happens when two geneticists plot a move back west during the pandemic to get back to their roots and start a new chapter? After finding a great house in Studio City with plenty of room to breath, they brought in Breeze to add playful colors and layers to what was a blank developer canvas of a house. Larkin grew up being surrounded by her father's ever evolving (and increasing!) art collection through his support of the Hammer Museum and the emergent LA art scene. But she had only known the art in white box gallery spaces. Near the end of the design process a new baby announced his arrival which allowed a quick pivot to convert a bonus “fun room” a nursery. To now be able to surround her new child with familiar pieces yet make them her own through the fashioning of her space could not have been more personal - and fun! The house was about weaving together a quilt for the family with a focus on being surround by art as if they were old friends around a fireplace - casual, intimate, known and never over-precious. We often invoked a nostalgic memory of summer camp but through fresh eyes during a period of slowing down, working from home and letting the adventure start at home.
